MercyAscot becomes first healthcare provider in Auckland to offer Room Service

13 June 2023

MercyAscot is the first healthcare provider in Auckland and the second in Aotearoa to offer Room Service to patients. Ascot Hospital introduced this unique meal service on 12 June. Mercy Hospital Room Service will follow shortly.

Room Service allows patients to order their meals from a high-quality menu whenever they want, giving them more flexibility and choice. Research shows that eating healthy and delicious food on their own schedule can be beneficial to a patient’s recovery, allowing them to progress with eating food after their procedure at their own pace.1  Good nutrition is an important part of the patient’s recovery. It supports wound healing, minimises the risk of unintentional weight loss and complications, and can reduce the patient’s length of stay.

With our Room Service, patients can choose what they want, when they want it, being able to order their meals conveniently via their room phone between 7 am and 7 pm. All meals are made fresh to order and delivered to the patient within 45 minutes by a member of the Food Service Team.

The new menu caters for a broad range of diets and cultural preferences. It includes an all-day breakfast and build-your-own sandwiches and wraps, amongst others. The patient diet can be changed during their stay, enabling them to progress to different types of foods following their procedure.

Room Service is not just great for patients – it’s great for the environment, too. Our chefs prepare all meals to order, resulting in in less food waste and a decreased carbon footprint.
